Good vs. Bad Composition

Good Composition
1.

2.
3.

4.

5.

These pictures were taken about 2 weeks ago when I went on a cruise to Panama, Costa Rica and Cozumel, Mexico.
1 & 2. These two pictures are examples of good composition. Lines are an effective way of grabbing the viewers attention by making it the main focus of the picture.
3. The bright orange color captures your attention in this picture. By looking at this picture, you can see all the details, colors and patterns just by staring at the lines on her legs. The color really helps define the image.
4. This picture's shape and balance brings visual stability.
5. This picture gives off movement from the spiral pattern from the building. It is the main focus and has rhythm.

Bad Composition

1.
2.

3.
4.
5.

1. This picture is an example of bad composition. Even though the main focus was the sunset, there are many distractions in the picture such as the lights and cars in the parking lot, the buildings and the tree in the left hand corner.
2. This is an example of composition "in jail"
3. This picture was taken through a glass window. This is bad composition because the lights from the room are making a glare and you can see them in the picture.
4. This picture is very dim and blurry.
5. There is a lot going on in this picture. The worst thing about it are the two lights. It is also very busy, blurry and has a dark atmosphere which makes it hard to see.
